Mateys, great meet last week, we have some happy coaches!  The board would like to give a huge thank you to all of our volunteers, again we can never have a successful meet without all of you.  And a special shout out to our RASH team, you guys truly were Really Awesome Swim Helpers!

This is a "Home" meet, but we are swimming Deer Park, and best of all, we will be inside!

Manvel HS shut off the water on Monday to repair a broken water main.  We are so thankful to Deer Park for being so accommodating to our circumstances.  Directions are posted on the website. Please park at the football stadium and enter the school through the doors by the tennis courts.

Bring blankets, sleeping bags, air mattresses, blankets, pillows, two towels, goggles, swim cap, change of clothes, entertainment... and of course your Pirate Spirit.

You can pick up your ribbons from our last meet at the Spirit Shop, which will be located close to Concessions.  Event entries will be posted tomorrow after 4:00 pm.

We will begin check-in at 6:45 am.  We will end check-in at 7:15 am.  Do NOT be late or you will NOT be swimming. Warm-ups begin right after check-in.  To check in, look for the junior coaches.  They will be in place to circle your name, give you your event stickers, and write your event numbers on your arm.  Warm-ups for our team begin at 7:00 am.

Remember you are responsible for getting your child to the Ready Area in time for their events by keeping track of the official event board by the pool and the Ready Area.  As a courtesy, we try to help you do this by announcing what races are lining up.  However, it is ultimately you and your swimmer’s responsibility.  Here is a note from our fabulous & fearless Ready Area Co-Chairs:

To all the wonderful Pirates,

We have officially survived our first home meet....and it was a scorcher with SMOKIN' fast swimmers and another win for our team!! Your ready area folks would like to ask you to change a few things for next week to help set a true Pearland Pirate tone in our ready area.

1.   Please ask the swimmers to keep the noise to a minimum while in the ready area.  We read about 1800 names over the course of the day to get children in line and if we have to shout every name over the noise it takes longer.

2.   Please speak to your swimmer about showing respect to the ready area volunteers.  When a volunteer calls their name please ask them to answer "I am here".  Also, please explain that there is only a certain number of spaces for names on the cards so some first names get cut off.  It is not that the name is spelled wrong, it is a card size issue.  We had some swimmers that were a little upset about the spelling of their names and if we have to stop and explain it takes more time.

3.   Lastly, if the swimmers could keep an eye on the event numbers a little better that would help.  It shouldn't be as much of an issue this week because we will be inside but we still need kids to know what event is in the ready area.
Thank you so much to all those volunteers who braved the heat and helped with the ready area.  This week will go even better and we are thankful for the wonderful families on our team.

If you will not be at the meet, please inform Jo Ann.  If it's before 5:30 am Saturday, email: jo_annsprague@hotmail.com, after 5:30:  call 832-264-0589.  Please do not call this number for any other reason.  If you are unable to fulfill your volunteer commitment, you need to contact your committee chair.

If you sign up for a meet and you fail to attend without informing the Clerk, your swimmer will be penalized by sitting out one meet.  If you sign up for a meet, attend the meet and leave before your events are finished without letting the Clerk know, then your swimmer will be penalized two meets.  We hate to punish the kids, so please don’t make us.

One last thing:  We are in need of more timers for the meet, please let us know if you are able to help out.

God speed, Pirates!

Genine

P.S.  Deadline to sign up for the July 3rd meet is Friday June 25th, 3:00 pm!
