Thank you for registering for the Pearland Swim Team. Below is some useful information to help you plan. It could also help you decide whether or not you still want to stay on this crazy ride. J
Please make sure to check the website at www.pearlandswimteam.com often. Our main forms of communication are the website and e-mails from me. If you feel you are not receiving our communications, all e-mails will be posted on the website under the Communications tab. You will also receive e-mails from our Clerk of Course, Patti Caddell, who will ask you if your child will be swimming in a particular meet. These inquiries usually come two weeks prior to the meet in question. Please reply to her and keep a copy of your reply. Please add rhonda.paz@sbcglobal.net and pcaddell@mac.com to your Safe Sender’s List.
Upcoming Dates:
April 9 and 16 (choose one) - Tryouts for all new swimmers (and those who did not swim 2007 or 2008 season), including high school and club swimmers. It begins promptly at 4 p.m. at Manvel High School Natatorium. Please come ready to swim with your swimsuit, goggles and towel. Click here for more details. If you are late, you will not be able to try out, and will not be on the team. We only have the pool for a short time and we have a ton of kids to cycle through.
April 25 and May 2 (choose one) - Payments Dates where you will make your payment for the season, choose your practice times, and choose your volunteering spot. It will be at the Morgan Pool at 9a-12p. This will be first-come, first-serve on the practices and the volunteer spots. If you are not able to make it to one of these days, you will have the ability to pay at the Parent Meeting. All families are expected to have one parent volunteering for at least 3 shifts. A shift is a half of a meet. If you fail to sign up for a committee we will place you where we have the greatest need.
May 4 - Mandatory Parent Meeting at 7 p.m. at Silvercrest Elementary.
May 5 – First day of practice. Click here to see the practice schedule. We will all be at the same pool for the first couple of days. This will give us the opportunity for the coaches to meet all the kids and the kids to meet all the coaches. You will go at the time you signed up for.
Information that’s good to know:
We are blessed to have Coach Blake and Coach Lauren returning to us for another winning season.
We are still looking for team sponsors. If you and someone you know is interested in Sponsoring, please contact our Sponsor Chair, Laura Wilson, at 713-436-5006 or LonghornLaura@comcast.net. The deadline for Sponsorships is April 1st.
All of our meets are in indoor venues. And for those of you who have experienced an outdoor meet, you are downright gleeful. I know I am. We will host two home meets, but we will have a home meet that we are not hosting. La Porte is currently without a pool.
All of our home meets (and the one meet with La Porte) are at the Alvin High School. Our away meets are at Baytown Sterling High School and Deer Park High School. See the Meet Info tab more dates and details.
We will have our swimsuit vendor down for two days during our practice times. Our suits and various goggles will be available for purchase at this time. We are using the same suits we used last year. The times and locations will be announced.
After both tryouts have been completed, we will be sending out an e-mail to let you know if your child made the team. If your child made the team, Coach Blake and the coaching staff will post on the website the level your child is at – Beginner, Intermediate, Advance. You will choose your practice time based on this level. If after two weeks of practice, the coaching staff feels that your child can move up, then we will let you know via e-mail.
During practice, please do not approach the Coach. He is there for the kids at that time. He needs to have his eyes on your child in order to ensure their safety. If you have a problem or concern, you may approach one of the Board members at the practice or you may e-mail me or info@pearlandswimteam.com.
If you have a swimmer who is currently in the 6th-8th grades, we encourage you to sign them up with RASH. This is our group of helpers who are tasked with helping in the Ready Area, helping pool side, helping in the gym, and helping wherever they are needed. They are an awesome bunch of kids, and we couldn’t do it without them. Amy Roudbari, our RASH Momma, will be taking sign-ups at the Payment Dates and at the Parent Meeting.
Please remember that we are guests of the pools where we practice. We must clean up after ourselves and our children to be invited back next year. Without a pool, we do not have a swim team. If your child is 8 and under, you must have a responsible adult poolside. There are no exceptions.
If you have any questions, and you cannot find it on the website, please feel free to reply to this e-mail. It should be noted that during Spring Break, I will be taking a break from my computer. I plan on turning it off, unplugging it from the wall, and placing a sheet over the monitor.
Thanks for registering for the Pearland Swim Team! Good luck!
Sincerely,
